|
|
An Arizona Catholic nun (a hosptial administrator) was excommunicated for approving an abortion of an 11-week old fetus to save the life of the mother. And, how many priests are transferred to a new parish, and allowed to continue, not only as members of the church, but as abusers after abusing young boys.
I'm sorry; this is just wrong.

Thanks for posting a link, Agate, in case others want to read about it. I should've thought about doing that. :-)

They are probably afraid of "exceptions", in case that effectively makes a new "rule". It seems they draw the line at "aborting", full stop, under any circumstances. If they say it's ok under "X" circumstances, where is that line in the sand?

Ex-communication seems a little extreme, IMO. She is still currently employed at the same hospital, but in a different position. That would've been enough of a consequence, I think.
Again, compare her holy "crime" with abusive priests, and look what doesn't happen to them.

I agree with you Faith ... and in fact all most anyone else (who wasn't SO ill) would have to do is go to another hospital and they would still be accepted by their religion. It's probably always happened that way, that they could just transfer the person, hence avoiding the issue all together. See no evil ... some church's prefer an "in the closet" approach.

Yeah; transferring the patient would be a good option; assuming they had time to do that.
