How nice to see you here!

Some people here are already familiar to you, but for those who aren't, maybe you could post a few details about yourself as an introduction.

If you want to post photos, there's a section called "Our Photos" at the bottom of the list of forums on the first page, where you can post them, or you can post them anywhere else too.

If you have no problems about seeing your birthday observed, you can provide the date here:

Looking forward to reading your posts!

Hi. Posted in general, before I noticed this thread.

Am new to this board, but not new to MS, or MS message boards. As I said there, am Mamabug on MSWorld, and FaithS at Neurotalk. I appreciate both of those boards for some things, but ...

Looking forward to joining here. I know many of you, and I respect Agate.

Have had MS for 8+ years, with, often, fairly a-typical symptoms. Was on Betaseron for 5 years. Switched to Copaxone about 18 months ago, because Betaseron did not seem to be effective for me.

I also switched neuros at that time. Although I'd been mostly very happy with Dr. Odenheimer in Wichita, I really felt that, because of the unusual ways my MS presents itself, and, it's seriousness during flares, that I would benefit from an MS Specialist, and now I see Dr. Sharon Lynch at KU Med Center in Kansas City.

Hope to see more of you!

Thanks, Cricket. I noticed, in your profile, that you are from Ontario. Although I live in Kansas now (have spent most of my adult life here), I gre up in Saskatoon, SK, and have remained a Canadian citizen, even though, by now, I've lived here longer than I lived there.

Being a Canadian is just an important part of my roots that I'm not willing to give up.

Incidentally, DD20 is now living in Manitoba.

I think this board will be a better place with you here, Faith!

I recall when you first started posting at MS World, as MamaBug. Your posts are always sensible, conscientious and well written, IMO.

Hi Faith, nice to see you.

My daughter is on her way to Kansas on a scholarship this Fall term.

Hi Cherie --

Good to see you here.

You DD going to K-State next year? (Or KU or WSU, etc.)

Tell her -- welcome! (My DD is going to college in MB, Canada. My DS is going to volunteer with a church agency in Raleigh, North Carolina. Why don't these kids stay cloer to home? lol. I might have to adopt your daughter!)

No, we went with a college offer instead of a university one, cause I didn't want to make the committment to 4 yrs. She had a U offer from Iowa, but she really liked the coaches and people she talked to at this particular college, so we decided that if nothing else, she'd have a great adventure.

No kidding about the kids going so far, eh? I guess they did in the generations before us though too ... often leaving not only their country, but also continent too. At least they can travel easier now though, so it's not like we won't see them for 10 yrs or more. I'll miss her though, as I'm sure you will miss yours too cause I know you are very close to your children.

I'm going to try to tap into a few resources down there, JUST IN CASE. I'd like to know she's got somewhere safe to go if something unpleasant happens. I'll keep in touch here or by NT ... do you usually visit one or both boards regularly?

Thanks! Congrats to your daughter coming "home" (well your home).

Cherie

Yes; both boards.

My email address is in my profile at NT, so you can even feel free to email me. Actually, I'm sort of frustrated with the mods at NT, for various reasons. Glad that I discovered this board, because I think I'll like it better.

I'm also on MSWorld, and like that real well, for MS info, but I miss the OT threads that we used to be able to have there.

Curious which college she's going to. I live in Newton. There are some around here (Bethel, Hesston, Tabor, Friends, etc.). Maybe she's close by. :-)

Just found out today that DD did not get into the U of Manitoba nursing program for the fall. I'm pretty frustrated with her. The reason that she didn't get in is because her college didn't offer all the required pre-requesites. Well, duh. Why didn't she look into what she needed when she enrolled for classes last year. She could've made a different decision.

I've been frustrated with her choice of colleges for a number of reasons. I understand here wanting to go to MB because her BF is there, and they'd already been in a LD rel'p for many months. But, she had other choices, that would have been less expensive and could have given her the classes that she needed.

But, uncharacteristically for me, I kept my mouth shut and didn't say anything when she told me!

That's too bad, Faith. I know what you mean about having to keep quiet when we know we could probably guide them in a better way, but I guess this is how they learn, right? angryfire

Is she going to be able to do the prerequisites here then?

I'd rather not say too much about where my daughter is going, publicly, cause I'm just a little paranoid about internet sharing. I'll let you know when we get closer too, cause as I said, it would be good to know that she could be rescued if absolutely necessary.

It seems like a nice state, with really nice people, so that was a big factor in her choice.

Like I said, feel free to email me w/ that info (where your DD goes to college). Would be cool if she's around here.

My DD is still planning on attending U of Manitoba. She'll get the rest of her pre-requisites there, and transfer into the nursing program after she has those. Is hoping that, after one semester there, she'll be accepted into their nursing program, so she'll only lose a semester, not a whole year.

Has been dating her BF for a year and a half. They met in New Orleans when both were volunteering at rebuilding/repairing homes for Mennonite Disaster Service. Doesn't want to be far away from him. I get that. Wish she wasn't so far from us, but, hey -- I did that to my parents too. Moved 1250 miles away when I was 20. (She moved 900 miles away at age 19.)

Now that I think about, though, I was only 4 hours away at age 17/18, and, I don't think I saw my parents any more frequently than we've seen our daughter this past year, except that I was home for the summer, and she isn't. We all attended a family funeral in October, she was home for Christmas and Spring Break.

But, we're going to see her the end of this month, and she's planning a trip home in August.

Yeah, our lives revolve around them for so many years ... and then they get their own, eh? (Where's a sad face when you need them?).

I haven't been on NT in quite a while for the same reason you mentioned. I was a mod there in their early days, and I liked the way they intended to do things ... but I didn't really see it pan out in the longer run.
