Today we in the United States saw the government change over in a momentous way. A couple of quotations from the Reverend Martin Luther King, Jr., whose birthday was observed yesterday, might be in order here:
Quote: |
A nation that continues year after year
to spend more money on military defense
than on programs of social uplift
is approaching spiritual death.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Where Do We Go from Here: Chaos or Community?, 1967
|
Quote: |
This business of burning human beings with napalm, of filling our nation's homes with orphans and widows, of injecting poisonous drugs of hate into veins of peoples normally humane, of sending men home from dark and bloody battlefields physically handicapped and psychologically deranged, cannot be reconciled with wisdom, justice and love.

I've been doing {virtual) cartwheels and sending up cheers around here, and I'm probably not even disturbing the neighbors because many of them are doing cartwheels and sending up cheers too. |

It is as if America has come of a long dark time.
While there are lean and difficult times ahead your new president has brought hope and openness.
If Canada gets rid of Harper maybe the same will happen here. _________________ Cricket |

I am not so nervous about Canada now that Obama is in, even with Harper in place.
Him and Bush together scared the HELL out of me.
Congrats to you American's. I was so proud that he won.

The election and the inauguration celebration showed our better side--at long last. Maybe some day the world won't hate us. |
