It's sad when the Republicans get all excited about another aging actor (Fred Thompson), entering the presidential race to compete with those other jerks they have running (McCain being their most credible candidate). I think with McCain as his running mate, Al Gore has a great chance to compete as an Independant.
The real race here is between Hillary, Obama and Edwards.

Wouldn't that be a great administration ? The legitimate winner of the 2000 election, Al Gore (who's truly concerned about EARTH) with an ex-POW as his veep. Not to take anything away from Hillary, Obama & Edwards, but I think Al Gore would be a legitimate contender as a credible third party candidate.

The GOP don't have a prayer, especially following this imbecile, Bush.

I have a couple of right-wing acquaintances who send me e-mails, and some of these are vicious attacks on Obama.

There seems to be quite a campaign going on to link Obama with the Muslims who are terrorists. Obama belongs to the Church of Christ (I think that's the church--it's a church, anyway).

I, too, have a few right-wing friends who send those kinda emails to me (it smells a lot like that "swift-boat" attack on a legitimate war hero (John Kerry), to elect this dufus, deserter, dumbya. I recommend (as I have to them) that these "rumors" be confirmed through "snopes.com" which really validates any smear. Even Obama has a website up, www.barackobama/"stopthesmear.com where this slander can be confirmed. Most of that crap is false and just another smear tactic, employed by those right-wing fanatics.

Thanks for that link Dave. I have a couple of friends who email me that garbage about Obama all the time. In desperation I generally have been sending them true stuff about W that isn't very flattering. Or, jokes about McCain... I know, I shouldn't stoop so low, but I get upset when they send out mass untrue emails about the future president of our country.

Now I can run the stuff they send me through Snopes and send it back to all on their email lists as well. thumbright

Sure, ewizabeth. I get these erroneus, slanderous emails from acquaintenances of mine, usually some shot at Bill Clinton, many shots at Hillary, now Obama seems to be their target. I just get so annoyed with those (just like dumbya's) LIES, so I do just that, run 'em through snopes and reply to them. Not that the truth discourages their ignorant biased viewpoint, but I'm thinking that it at least lends credibility to MY perspective. I'm sure they know that they can't bullshit me, I don't buy that unsubstantiated shit.

Most of this smear starts as some little joke and then these people start actually BELIEVING this shit, and they think it somehow validates their own distorted perspectives. I've often hoped for a snopes.com to substantiate this bullshit, and verify this shit, so I'm happy to pass it along to you and anyone else on this board who wants to do the same.
Peace

Sometimes it's a case of satire that didn't work well, as in the New Yorker cover that Democrats are taking seriously:

Maybe this incident shows that some topics are just too hot button at times to be laughed at with satire...

I was just reading the July 7th edition of Fortune magazine and there was a good article telling about the differences in each candidate's policy proposals. There were two good tables showing how each views things such as taxes, health care, environmental issues, etc... I scanned them both in, and emailed to all of my friends and relatives who might be leaning toward McCain.

I prefaced it with a comment saying it was either this, or some unflattering jokes about McCain ... blackeye Maybe some of them will get the hint and realize this is really about issues and our country and not about skin color or even party affiliation. I certainly don't want four more years of W Bush and I believe that's what we'd get with McCain.

I wish I could post the PDF files here... scratch If anybody wants a copy, let me know.

And THAT is just ridiculous. I guess the New Yorker is getting desperate. They're using tactics like the National Enquirer now. joker

ewizabeth,I'd like to see the files you mentioned. In fact, I may be able to post them here.

If you'd like to send them to me, I could try. Do you need an e-mail address, or could you send them by PM?

Hi Agate,

I had your two email addresses already. I sent them to hotmail and gmail. They're two big files. (4mb and 2mb) When I scanned them in they ended up that way. I hope they don't take a long time for you to download.

Here's the other one, also from Fortune magazine, July 7. Some of the text is blurry but I hope the general idea comes across:

Thanks for posting it Agate! Now if any of us here is making more than $600k per year we probably won't like it. I think Obama's plan makes more sense with the current mess our country is in right now. It isn't going to put those in the higher tax brackets in the poor house, that's for sure. But you know they'll really fight this if he's elected.

If we do as McCain proposes we'll just be in worse economic shape in my opinion.

But then again if McCain is elected he'll cut out benefits for the neediest and often the most innocent of the people too, just what we don't need.

On all of the top issues listed, Obama's ideas are mostly all better I think. McCain has a couple of good ideas that seem like they might actually be his own, but most of it is just doing as he's been told from those who want him to run for office.

For instance, Obama will only cut corporate taxes if loopholes are closed that help them to get out of paying taxes in the first place. McCain says he wants the market to find good forms of alternative energy (instead of tax dollars funding it.) I think that's just his way of saying he wants to keep our dependence on foreign oil. (Have to keep those pals of his happy.) He does have a good idea in building new nuclear plants, because that creates jobs as well as decreasing our dependency on oil.

On health-care and trade, Obama is best as well. McCain wants to keep free-trade deals going and cut tariffs. Obama would like to set some import restrictions in place. I think that will at the very least improve the quality of whatever we import?

So, can you all tell I'm ready for Obama to be elected? sunny :-)

Me too! He and Michelle can just move right on into the White House at any time so far as I'm concerned.
The sooner the better (heh!).

Obviously, you guys can count me in on that as well. I think by the time it's all been said and done those greedy Republicans will be reduced to the 2% of "wage earners" that dumbya/McCain's policies protect. Good riddance to dumbya and I can't see McCain challenging for the nomination, next time (if he's too old, now, where do you think he'll be in 4 or 8 years ?)

He'll probably still be in the Senate unless he has a massive coronary. From the reports I see in the news, it doesn't look like he takes very good care of himself. He has heart problems, high blood pressure and a bad temper. Not a good combination.

Ewizabeth,
Well spoken. Yes, McCain IS a lame duck too, just like his mentor, dumbya. Where's your photo (superficial bastard that I am) ?

I agree.

I'm 50 and married with children Dave but I probably posted a picture here somewhere.
