Very nice, Agate.

I moved this year, and my new yard had been terribly neglected and unmaintained. I didn't have a nice garden this year as I spent the spring trying to just get it cleaned up, borders in the gardens, etc. I also don't have much money to spend on such things . . . however, I managed to get some plants and flowers rooted that I transplanted from my other house.

Cherie, that looks to me as if you've done an enormous amount of work! What spectacular results!

Now you can sit back and just enjoy gazing at it. That's always fun!

Well, this is very timely, since I just came in from spraying my plants.

Lovely color Joan & Cherie! Thanks for sharing. Your hard work is a treat for the eyes! I enjoy gardening, it's very soothing and rewarding to me. I especially like to see how others express their love for it in their gardens.

If I could figure out how to post pictures I'd show you what I've been up to.

Dee, if you'd like to send me a PM giving your questions about posting photos, I'll be glad to help though I'm no expert at it.

This is what I've been up to. I had a 'problem' area in my yard - the grass was nasty, a nuisance to mow/trim around. So I asked my DH to remove the grass, then I planted a bird of paradise tree, some plumbago, hybiscus, society garlic, hawthornes, azaleas, oyster plants, and caladium. Add some cypress mulch and brick and ...... voila!

These are the 'before' and 'after' shots.

PS: Hey Joan! I did it! Thanks for the tutorial!

Really nice, Dee! Thanks for posting these. I like the brick edging too--I've seen edgings of bricks positioned diagonally and sticking up out of the ground, and they pop out of place easily. They're also something to trip over easily. Setting them in flat, the way you did, makes more sense to me.

Agate, Cherie and Dee,

I love your flower and garden pics, how beautiful.

Agate, you must have perfect weather for tuberous begonias, yours are just lovely.

Cherie, you've made a lot of progress in a short time, I'm impressed!

Dee, your garden is beautiful too, I love to see what a person can do in the south with your year-round warm weather.

Thanks all for starting my day on a happy note!

Thank you! I'm glad y'all enjoyed my photos.

Joan, I set the brick flat in sand, level, hammer in place with a rubber mallet. Then I can set the wheels of the mower right on them w/o needing to trim close with a weed whacker.

Ewizabeth, with a year-round growing season, I look for slow-growing plants to keep the maintenance duties down to a low roar.

Those are really lovely photos, James! I like the water lilies in particular. And are those the koi fish you mentioned a while back? (I'm sorry I don't know much about identifying fish!)

You must have been working diligently out there in your garden. Well done!

How beautiful! I'd love to have a fish pond but I'm concerned about the maintenance. Is it difficult?

Thank you Cheri.

Yes agate those are the Koi. I have a few algae eaters and a turtle In there also. I have Gold, Yellow, Black, and Brown Koi In there. All together I have about 40 Koi In the pond.

LaDeeDa, the maintenance Isn't hard at all. I have a filter In the middle that helps control the algae, plus the algae eaters. I also have a filter system that I added. It's the same type of filter system that one of the 18' pools use to filter the water. It works very well.

Will the water overheat in full sun? I'm in FL and I wonder whether the fish would cook.

About every third day, I will drain the pond almost completely empty, and then refill It with fresh water. It keeps the fish cool, and the Lillies will bloom better. The fish have gotten so use to me, that I can put my hand In the water and they will let me hold them as long as I don't try to take them out of the water.

You all have such incredible guardens. I'm quite jealous.

My psychopsis mendenhall has been blooming.

It looks almost identical to the following photo.

WOW, that looks like some kind of bug (butterfly) or something, Matt.

Is it called the "Monarch" clone because it looks like a Monarch butterfly?

He's jealous--somebody who can grow orchids is jealous! I wouldn't even attempt growing an orchid.

I don't know why it's called monarch, but the genus psychopsis is called "butterfly orchid", because of their resemblance to butterflies.

VERY pretty. My DD's MIL (got that?) is an orchid aficionado - I'll have to look for this at her house.
