Has anyone else read this book? It came out in 2000. The author is about 35 and founded the magazine McSweeney's.
This book is partly an autobiography. I thought it was very interesting and well done.
The author grew up mainly in the prosperous Chicago suburb of Lake Forest, Illinois. Problems developed in a major way when both parents died of cancer-- Eggers was then in his early 20s. He was apparently in charge of raising the youngest child, a boy of 7, from then on. (An older brother and sister were no longer living at home.) |
