National MS Society Funds Study on Medical Marijuana
The National Multiple Sclerosis Society recently announced that it will fund research on the effect of marijuana on spasticity among people with MS. This is the first such study financed by the Society.
In the past, it has consistently dismissed reports on the effectiveness of medical marijuana due to insufficient data. According to a report on the society’s Web site, the results of clinical trials of smoked marijuana and of one of its major active ingredients, THC, in oral spray form, have been inconclusive. Part of the problem is that these trials have measured spasticity on the Ashworth Scale, which relies on the subjective judgment of the examiner.
In contrast, Mark A. Agius, M.D., and fellow researchers at the University of California-Davis School of Medicine, have developed an objective system to measure spasticity. This system was developed for a study on marijuana in people with MS, but the University of California Center for Medicinal Cannabis Research lost funding when the investigation was only half done. The Society is now funding the study to its completion, which is scheduled for March 2008. According to the Society, this will be the first study on medical marijuana that meets rigorous scientific standards for data.

Yep...that's pretty interesting! Not too far away from completion. |

What does this statement mean exactly?
Is my brain not taking this in properly?
We know there were other studies on MJ (for many disorders).
If this study proves that it may help it will do no good when the US government will not allow a Dr to prescribe.
Don't get me wrong. I use it. Helps me tremendously. |
