Interesting. Fundamentalism seems to depend on a rigid structure even though there is no real church hierarchy--no Pope, no vast collection of nuns, priests, bishops, cardinals, etc.
Instead, there's a structure of "rules" as perceived in Scripture.
Fundamentalists can show you where the Bible says women shouldn't cut their hair or wear makeup, people shouldn't dance or indulge in diversions like going to movies, and of course no one should smoke, drink, or gamble.
There are many more rules, and they are very strict indeed, particular in smaller communities. |

There is also the underlying notion that god has a strict code that you are not to question, even if it seems immoral, and everything is black and white. |
