|
Hello Everyone,
My grand entrance has been somewhat delayed as I was unable to log in and eventually "went away". MsSpeaks' noble leader has apparently resolved this issue.
If you read at or are a member of Braintalk you might recognize me as "RandomThought". I have not been a particularly active member over the years.
I recognize many of the names here and in some ways having read ms forums for many years it is possible that I know you better than you know me...creepy huh ?
Best Regards
Brian |

Hi Brian,
I'm sorry your registration activation didn't seem to go through at the time you registered. At first I thought I'd deactivated it as time went on and you didn't post, but I noticed that you registered fairly recently. I don't usually deactivate registrations any more.
I cut them off at the pass instead. People may notice a newest member's user name listed at the bottom of the first page sometimes, but it quickly disappears.
These are the bogus registrants. They sign up but before they are "activated," I look into their details. If I find that they've "chosen" the default language (Chinese!) and the default template I'm fairly sure they're bogus (have no serious interest in this board)--because they haven't even bothered to make choices they would want to make. Sometimes there are other clues in their information--indications that they're peddling medical remedies, porn, etc.
Of course there may be the sincere registrant who happens to want the board displayed in Chinese, but it would be rare....
Lately there have been several bogus registrants each day. I've heard of some boards getting far more than that, and so we're lucky. |

Thanks again Agate,
Given my sketchy recollection that you possess a PhD in English and have taught at the university level, I am afraid to address you directly.
Perhaps my "cutsie" colloquialisms are a screen to cover my woeful lack of formal education.
Anyhoo (see? it's working !)... I am: 51 years young, a husband, a father, a disabled veteran , and later (2001) diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis.
Oh, and usually not so sarcastic online as I have been the last few weeks
and now...my life is an open book |

Thanks for some details about yourself. Please feel free to ignore this question, but I wonder where you're located?
(I'm not nearly as scary or impressive as you think. I taught at the college level but it was hardly a university. It was the two-year community college system of Chicago, and I taught for only 3 years. I've spent the rest of my adult life being a mom and a free-lance translator, mainly.) |

Oh,
In the open book that my life has, since this morning, become... I live in Washington state so close to the Canadian border that if Lady Express gets mad at me she might throw a rock through my window.
Not that she ever would...Throw a rock, I mean. |

Oh, I'm absolutely sure she wouldn't!
lady_express, where are you? You wouldn't even throw a snowball, would you?
I lived in WA state since 1981 myself but just recently became an Oregonian.
Glad you've decided to do some posting, Evergreen aka RandomThought. |

Hey !
Look at me...posting up a a storm all over the internet. Practically an overnight sensation, that's what I am. (late bloomer though I might be)
Agate, as the years pass you are moving further south and I am moving north ! In my case I've gone about as far as I can and still retain citizenship. You might want to stop if you see the Mexican border on the horizon.
Um yeah, Ewizabeth, that whole Abby thing...I don't want to go too far. I think maybe I snapped. Yeah that's it; I snapped. Years of internet torture in the form of off-topic conspiracies and I finally snapped.
Most of it is just a blur to me now. I am quite certain not everyone has found my rapier wit so charming and/or amusing.
OK, I confess...I do find myself pretty darned entertaining at times but maybe we shouldn't encourage me?

Snowball?! ... haven't seen one all season, thank goodness. Guess it would have to be a rock then.
Hi Brian. I've seen you more active on BT lately, but I haven't really wanted to get in on the conversations there lately.
I'm down across the border quite often, cause I am only about 15 min on the other side. Maybe we'll have to go for coffee one day when I'm down there?
Glad you decided to join us!

Thank You also for your welcome, Cherie.
I LIVE for coffee, especially now that I've surrendered all other vices. If we can arrange to 'grab a cuppa" someday...that would be nice.
I am also about 15 minutes from "a crossing"
Hey, maybe we met at EXPO ! back in 86!!!!!!!
best regards

Well, if you are over by Cranbrook, that probably won't work
I have a Nexus pass and can get over any crossing within about 5 min ... so I go down there quite often. Are you near one of the main crossings (I am), or a little further out?
Either way, it's not too far for me.

LOL...I googled the location of Cranbrook...
Ok: (internet stalkers turn your heads)
I grew up in Bellingham (never really did grow up) and returned to this area after some years serving in the United States Coast Guard.
I currently live in between the Blaine/Whiterock and the Aldergrove/Lynden crossings. I don't think you could really throw a rock this far...it is likely more than 2 km to the border itself.
It probably would be very easy to meet for coffee sometime. And I think it would be fun.
Let me know... (most likely my wife and little girl would come too)
Brian
