DYSPHAGIA STUDY SEEKS PARTICIPANTS
The National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Bethesda, Maryland, is seeking adults who have had dysphagia for more than six months for a study of muscle stimulation to prevent aspiration.
While dysphagia (difficulty in swallowing) occurs more frequently in advanced stages of MS, it can occur at any time during the disease course.
Aspiration occurs when small amounts of food or liquid are unknowingly inhaled, often when an individual coughs or chokes.
The study requires two visits, both paid for by the NIH. The studies will be carried out at the National Institutes of Health.Contact Dr. Christy Ludlow at 301-496-9367, 10 Center Drive, MSC 1416, Building 10, Room 5D38, Bethesda, MD 20892-1416; e-mail ludlowc@ninds.nih.gov. There are no costs to participants or companions. |
